Elizabeth and I seem to have been thinking the same thing. I wrote a short little comment on how the Spirit accomplishes sanctification and what role material things play in that, and just yesterday she posted an article reflecting on how the Spirit interacts with us in general.

If this line of thinking interests you, I highly recommend the fiction book, The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis, for more examples and thought experiments. The book is written as a collection of letters from a 'senior fiend,' or something to that effect, to his subordinate, and it explores the relationship between mind and body, in particular the relationship between spiritual influences (good or evil) and our minds.
